The Best Spanish Beaches ... Are Nerja Beaches
OK, so maybe I´m a little biased, but in my opinion, some of the best Spanish beaches can definitely be found in Nerja.
Which makes Nerja a perfect destination for a Spanish beach holiday.
So what is about the 13 kilometres of Nerja beaches that set them apart from others on the Costa del Sol?

Well ... what makes Nerja so different to other Spanish towns on Spain's Costa del Sol is that it is located at the foot of the Sierra Almijara mountain range and these literally reach the coastline forming magnificent cliffs which give way to picturesque and intimate beaches and coves.
If you have time, I would highly recommend you try and visit ALL of the beaches in Nerja.
They are all different and unique in their own way.
Here’s just some of the reasons why ...
Burriana Beach
Of all the Nerja beaches the most popular is
Burriana Beach Nerja
(Playa Burriana).
If you want adventure and activities, this is the place to go, and it’s great for families and children.
But Burriana also has quieter sections reserved for sun loungers and relaxation ... that’s where you’ll find me!
However, if you prefer a smaller, more intimate stretch of coastline to call your own, you will be spoilt for choice.
Carabeillo Beach
Of the smaller beaches, my personal favourite is
Carabeillo
(Playa Carabeillo).
I just love the lush backdrop of tropical plants, palm trees and shrubs ... it makes me feel like I’m on a secluded tropical island!
Calahonda Beach
Then you have
Calahonda
(Playa Calahonda).
This has to be one of the quaintest beaches you will ever visit.
And due to its location, right next to the
Nerja Balcon de Europa
on the eastern side, I think this would have to be the most photographed stretch of sand in Nerja!
La Caletilla Beach
To the western side of Balcon de Europa is
La Caletilla
(Playa La Caletilla).
If you prefer a fine dining experience for lunch after having spent the morning relaxing on your sunbed, this place is for you.
El Salon Beach
My second most favourite beach is
El Salon
(Playa El Salon). The best thing about El Salon, I think, is getting there! Many regular visitors to Nerja have never even discovered this place!
Torrecilla Beach
Torrecilla (Playa Torrecilla) has softer sand so ideal for building sand castles for the kids!
El Playazo Beach
Last, but not least, is El Playazo (Playa El Playazo).
This is Nerja’s most rugged beach and probably the least known of all the Nerja beaches as it´s still relatively underdeveloped, unlike much of the other Spanish coastline.
El Playazo is certainly a favourite with the Spanish locals.
Why?
Because it´s where you´ll find some of the best and cheapest beach restaurants serving delicious spanish food and seafood.
This is where you’ll find the locals having lunch, especially on a Sunday ... and me, of course!
What I like most about the Nerja beaches is that they are ALL accessed from the town itself. So you can leave your car at home and easily walk to them from town.
I´m sure you´ll agree that Nerja really does have some of the best Spanish beaches.
Out of Town Nerja Beaches
For those of you who want to venture beyond the more well known Nerja town beaches and stray off the beaten track a little, why not try some of the out of town
Nerja beaches.
