Ever Fancy a Spain Skiing and Beach Holiday?
A Spain skiing and beach holiday?
Does this actually exist? There’s not many places in the world that can boast this, but if you’re lucky enough to be holidaying in Nerja ... you can have breakfast on the beach in Nerja and lunch on the ski slopes in Sierra Nevada!
Sierra Nevada Spain is the mountain range in Granada which hosts Europe’s most southerly ski resort. It's incredible to think that it's only about 1 1/2 hour drive from Nerja. The correct name of the Sierra Nevada ski resort is in fact Pradollano, however, everyone refers to it as just “Sierra Nevada”. Pradollano is a purpose-built resort, and comes alive during the ski season which starts around mid December until around mid April. As with all ski resorts in Spain, the “après-ski” nightlife at the resort is animated, and true to the Spanish culture, partying starts late and finishes early in the morning. Now, I’m no skier, but apparently, the snow record at the Sierra Nevada is pretty good and the best skiing conditions are in late spring, when it’s a little warmer on the mountain (it does get cold and windy up there during the winter months) … and I’ve heard you can even ski in short sleeves! All the usual ski equipment including ski suits can be hired at the resort. The resort boasts 22 lifts and 105km of runs ... the longest of which is 5km long. Apparently the best run is a red run called Olimpica, which runs along the ridge of the mountain providing incredible views of the plains of Granada on one side and on the other side views out to the Mediterranean, the Strait of Gibraltar and on a clear day even out to Morocco. For something a little different during your holiday in Nerja Spain, skiing in the Sierra Nevada is certainly worth considering.
